2020 Giant Challenge

Updated: Oct 27, 2019

Are YOU ready for the new and improved Giant Challenge of 2020?!

The Giant Challenge is coming into its third year of its brilliant biking bonanza! With year 2 having had a 200% increase in challengers we are on the right track for another successful day.

With new charity partners and supporters, a new timing system keep track of your progress around the trails and plans to have 3 different levels/lengths of courses to support a variety of abilities - it just keeps getting better!

The new tracking system works by using Radio Frequency Identification tags (RFID). They are an automated chip system where the chip can be stuck onto the riders PVC bib number which will then be placed on the front of your bike. The chip will register at the start and end of the race and will be able to give riders an exact ride time. These systems are often used during running marathons as well, and are hugely popular.

We are still in the process of testing our system to ensure that it works well during the courses we chose and in the mud and water.

The "Haughton" Giant Challenge of 2019 was a huge success, raising money for air ambulance and the Haughton st Giles primary school, who have kindly been our start and finish line hosts for the last two years. Having had approximately 240 riders and superb feedback we are expecting a big turnout for our next adventure on the 28th June 2020.

The Giant Challenge was established by a father son dynamic Derek and Craig Wilson. Their love for the outdoors and off road mountain biking had inspired them to start off a charity event and to give them chance to show off their orienteering skills, computing and web building skills alongside planning the event and liaising with the host school. They have done us proud! The Wilson duo expanded to include the rest of the family, Carol and Vicky Hulme, Hannah and Sean Clarke, Rachelle Boardman, Patrick Rodgers and the Haughton St Giles school PTA member Stephen Kingdon along with members of the PTA. They have all been equally helpful by supporting us with logistics and hosting a summer fair and refreshments for riders and spectators at the school grounds.

Watch this space for more updates and information on the teams progress.

Coming soon....We will be announcing the two winners for free tickets to the 2020 Giant Challenge for giving feedback from last year.
